All is not what it seems

April 10, 2011
I realise that, to the undiscerning reader, it may look as though I have not posted in this blog for eleven months. Oh! Would that you were more discerning! I have, of course, been writing throughout this time in an invisible font, which is now full up with invisible baptised infants, so I have had no choice to resort to visibility.

You may never know what I have been recording during this happy hiatus. I'm not sure that I know myself, come to that.
But, Dear Reader, Onwards and Forwards. We Shall Be Moved.

Changeability

May 3, 2010
Changes have taken place and are in the air. Mr and Mrs Dean have arrived in the Dominion of Canada, where they hold property in Winnipeg. Mr Philpotte has gone south to Sussex, and Ambrose to Royal Deeside where is is engaged in fishing for Salmon with Mr Joel Oliver, though the latter, alas, is required to attend a Place of Examination in Bristol this very week for the furtherance of his Academic Qualification in Theological Matters. Mr and Mrs Fenwick are also away in a contraption called ...

The Charm of Yarm and Other Matters

April 29, 2010
A few busy but satisfactory days have passed since I was last able to write in my Diary, or 'Blog' as they call it these days. Divine service on Sunday was most uplifting, and spurred me on in the Subjugation of the Lawns on Monday and Tuesday. I also received visits from and drank tea with several friends in my special Garden Room aka The Shrine of St Bruno (q.v.).

Yesterday Ambrose and I met to break our fast in Darlington, and thence to Hospital, not because of the food (sausage, bacon, egg...

A Farewell and a Safari

April 24, 2010
Good morrow, Gentle Reader if there is one. Yesterday I breakfasted and visited Jericho at home, but at Midday plus One my Wife and I took transport to the pretty dale Village of Eggleston, where we chose the Moorcock Tavern to enjoy a luncheon of Minced Beef, Lamb Meat, onions, cheese, fryed Potato, carrot and Broccoli (named after a 'film producer', apparently).

After an appropriate retirement for Repose, I was glad to welcome Mr and Mrs Dean on the occasion of their leave-taking before Trav...

A Day of Buying Books

April 22, 2010
Yesterday I escorted Mr Philpotte and Ambrose to Sessay, near unto Thirsk, where we found that the Rector, in absentia, was allowing trade to take place in his stables, which have been adapted for the purpose of the Sale of Books. A dear Lady, representing a Mr Potterton, supplied us with Coffee while we made a leisurely perusal of the large and commendable selection of books. I bought one on that dashing naval Captain, Nelson (a neighbour by birth to my friend Mr Woodforde), one on Mr Pepys ...

A Day of Travel

April 20, 2010
Today the Sun has risen gloriously, unimpeded by the Dark Cloudes of Doom and Gloom emanating from the Mythical countrie of Iceland - as if such a place could be habitable!! There is however a sharp and keen Wind that cuts to the marrow.

Yesterday Mr and Mrs Dean and I journeyed to the port of Whitby, stopping en route at the charming town of Guisborough. Neither places disappointed us. We dined sumptuously at a Fishermen's Inn named Magpie, though that item did not appear to be on offer. We a...

Apprehensions

April 17, 2010
I observe that I made no entry in my Diary ("Blog") yesterday. This would have been because I was too occupied with other things. On my way to have my feet examined I interviewed the village Constable, Bob Peel, who was standing watch near my Gate, along with Mrs Charlton. They were waiting there observing the passers-by in their carriages, and hoping to be able to tell someone off for excessive speed. Alas and Alack! passers-by never do speed excessively at such times, but as soon as Con. Pe...

The Joy of Spring Cleaning and Other Natural Functions

April 15, 2010
A Tribute to Mrs Grimethorpe Ver 4.2 is long overdue. This worthy lady from the Village of Butterknowle applies herself with the utmost diligence to the weekly Matter of the Cleansing of the Wrecktory. This Tuesday she set about our bedroom with Verve and Application, refusing all refreshment apart from a bowl of tea at the start of her stint. She removed a range of Deposits from the windows.

As a result, although we cannot find anything apart from the bed, we have been able to see the outside...

Wednesday 14th April 2010

April 14, 2010
Today's meating of the Teesdale Eccentrics' Dining Club was poorly attended; just Ambrose and I. Mr Scott-Biggs, appallingly, missed his first meating because of something called 'work'. Apparently he does not collect tithes. Professor Raymondus we suspect of being in a Lakeland Cottage, but that's a feeble excuse especially as he has a bottle of Singleton Malt to share with us. Mr and Mrs Dean are away train spotting, but we make allowances for Canadians.

There is, we hear, something called a...

Tuesday 13th April 2010

April 13, 2010
Ambrose and I visited the Gate's Head, a town on the south bank of the River Tyne where the jurisdiction of Episcop. Dunelmensis ends. His assistant, Mark of Jarrow, was addressing a meeting at the Church of St Edmund, arranged by the Arts Chaplain, Rev Jim, a famous Nudist (along with hundreds of others, he took part in an altogether Skinist work of art). Opposite this church is the 'Get Carter' Carp Ark, Brutalist architecture at its starkersist. It was an interesting meeting, despite every...
